Hotel Near the Monterey Bay Aquarium

3.8 Miles | 9 Minutes Drive

The Monterey Bay Aquarium sits on the water at the far end of Cannery Row, about nine minutes from Pacific Inn on North Fremont Street. Built on the site of a former sardine cannery, it is devoted to the living bay right outside its windows: the towering kelp forest, the open ocean, rocky shores, and the sea otters most visitors come to see.

Plan on spending at least half a day, and check the daily schedule when you arrive so you catch the feedings and talks you care about most. Afterward, the Coastal Recreation Trail and Cannery Row are right outside the doors for a walk along the bay.

Tips

  • Buy timed tickets online before you go, especially on weekends, holidays, and in summer.
  • Weekday mornings and late afternoons tend to be calmer than midday.
  • Downtown parking near Cannery Row fills on busy days. Allow extra time, or take a rideshare from the hotel.
